As a result of their diversity and abundance in both aquatic and terrestrial habitats, phagotrophicprotists play a crucial role in the movement of matter and energy throughout their respective food webs. To assess the function of protists in ecosystems, it is crucial to understand their influence on grazing, which involves understanding prey selectivity. There have been several methodologies and viewpoints attempted, not all of which are compatible, in an effort to explain the selective grazing behaviour of protists.
