Motherhood stands as a cornerstone of societal structure, revered and romanticized yet laden with complexities often overlooked. This research paper delves into the internal realms of maternal experiences as depicted in Indian English novels, aiming to unravel the psychological intricacies of motherhood. By focusing on themes such as maternal ambivalence, postpartum depression, the impact of societal expectations on mental health, and the emotional journey of motherhood beyond idealized portrayals, this study seeks to provide a comprehensive understanding of the multifaceted nature of maternal identity. Through close textual analysis and thematic exploration, this paper aims to shed light on the psychological and emotional dimensions of motherhood in the context of Indian literature.
