Walt Whitman is said to be the voice of democracy among the prominent figures in American literature. His work, even in his prolific Leaves of Grass, displays that strong vision of democracy so far off from political mentality. The core realties he exhibits are liberty, equality, and human dignity. He declares ordinary men great heroes and claims them to be the true heroes of the earth. His poetry reflects an inclusive, spiritual democracy that promotes interconnectedness of the sacredness of every individual in collective human unity. Free verse, Whitman uses unassuming language to speak of a democratic vision that speaks of people. His work challenges readers to embrace democracy not only as a political ideal but as a principle based on compassion, individualism, and mutual respect. This paper examines Whitman's idea of democracy through his poetry, reflecting on unity, freedom, and equality in showing how his works offer a framework of living by democratic ideals, forever. Whitman's poetry has the power to inspire a future generation on individualistic and societal levels.
