Abstract
:

The Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012, is a landmark legislative initiative to protect children against sexual abuse. But the success of the statute in getting convictions largely depends on the quality and accessibility of medical and forensic evidence. This paper critically analyzes the role of such evidentiary elements affecting conviction rates under the POCSO Act. Leveraging case law examination, empirical research, and stakeholder interviews, the paper identifies evidentiary gaps, procedural deficiencies, and systemic impediments to justice delivery. Proposals are made for upgrading evidence collection protocols, training mechanisms, and judicial interpretation.
